We’re just as surprised to see you too, my prince!
This episode pretty much signals the end of fillers and the return of the manga story arc. Before anyone goes bonkers thinking that the Prince Soma and Agni are having a cameo in episode 12, I’m sorry for misleading you. (No actually, I’m not. Watcha think I put these as caption pics for? XP) They are coming in episode 13!
Surprise surprise? Guess we’re wrong in thinking we’ll never see our favourite Indian royalties this season. Does that mean they’re extending the anime beyond 13 episodes? I do think so! It is entirely cruel to dedicate only one episode to Soma and Agni before dangling viewers on a hiatus till the next season! Keeping fingers cross! I’m really excited to see who will be voicing Soma and Agni. Miyano Mamoru seems to be a favourite choice among many viewers. It must be the Tamaki influence. I do think it is a good choice! What about Agni? What do you guys think? I’m thinking Sugita Tomokazu! A nice low voice will suit Agni in my opinion!
Right, episode 12. Ha, I’ve conveniently forgot about it. Well, it’s even creepier this episode. You have dancing dolls with broken necks, straw sticking out from creepy guy’s head while he is still moving (meep!), a doll master (literal in every sense of the word), miniscule clown with sharp teeth running around laughing madly and a cameo from some episodes ago.

Ewww…

Um… Bad hair day?

I told ya… Doll Master…

I don’t even know what to say. This is SICK. I hate clowns!
Why is she here? No idea. Must be for the shock factor. It didn’t work. Move over bitch. You’re a filler unless you appear in the manga.
However, like I said, since this episode is kind of an opening to the manga story arc, they have to end this one somewhat mysteriously. So we get a glimpse of Ciel’s past from Lizzie’s perspective. I really like the way they give us glimpses of Ciel from the past, it just adds a right dose of angst to the story! And I never ever get sick of it! Ok, so Lizzie just wants to see Ciel smile again. Actually, she just wants to throw him a freaking party. *roll eyes* Yadada… the entire episode makes no sense except that we see more of Ciel’s mysterious past coming back to haunt him. The “doll master” seems to have something to do with Ciel’s enemies who branded him, but of course, we have no idea who he is. We have the mysterious janus-faced maid too, though we have no idea what’s her role in this.
Questions questions questions…
Do I have anything particular to say about this episode? In fact, I do. The music is excellent. The ghostly soprano voice serenading at the the scene of Ciel’s birthday is brilliant. It contrasts nicely with the somewhat contrived joyful birthday atmosphere and fits perfectly into the scene where snow falls torridly outside a window, lit by a flickering candle. And yes, I do love the scene when Ciel gives a resounding slap to Sebastian.

Whew… Ciel is a rather abusive master I should say. But I do get the kicks seeing that look on Seb’s face though.
We’ll be happily awaiting Prince Soma and God’s Right Hand to appear next week then!
