Elric brothers, 参上！
It did not disappoint. \(^.^)/ Yay! In fact it was preeeetyyy AWESOME! I knew it was worth screwing up my deadlines for. Ha. Just kidding! I did my homework before watching, so learn kids! Any way, hats off to Chinese fansubbing teams. Do these guys SLEEP? They churn out subbed episodes in hours! I got my FMA subbed on the day it was released! This guy are awesome, so sankyuu~ Alrighty, here goes my first impression of the first week of Spring’s anime…
Full Metal Alchemist~ Brotherhood
やっと来た！Alas! My chest was tokidoki all the way when I was watching it. It was just waves after waves of nostalgia, excitement and of course, fangirling! Where can I even start!? (′ ∇ `)
*breathes* Ok, let’s start with the seiyuu. It was AWESOME to hear Paku Romi as Ed and Rie Kugimiya as Al again! Its totally mune kyun~ But I’m still getting use to having Miki Shinichiro as Roy Mustang. It’s just… um, kinda weird. Don’t get me wrong, I love Miki Shinichiro~ But I keep having this really queer impression of him at the back of my mind. Flippant and relaxed as Urahara, erotic and sexay as hell in his BL roles (OMG, case in point, Katou Youji.) So its friggin weird to hear him as Roy Mustang, especially when the previous seiyuu gave him a nice baritone. Mmn… anyone second this?
This gonna sound so weird… but I squeal whenever I hear “鎌金術” (renkin jutsu) and “等価交換” (toukan koukan)… Hurhur… And its just nostalgic to see Edward throwing a fit whenever he hears the words small, kid, chibi… But… FMA is essentially a tragedy. And the anime’s already showing snippets of that. Brace yourselves for next episode, people. It’s gonna be a crying fest.
Overall? BRAVO FMA! Awesome as expected!
Sengoku Basara
OH WHERE DO I START FOR THIS ONE… I’m still trying to figure out whether I like this one. It has a very interesting flavour. It’s history, bishie, sci-fi fantasy, kick ass rock n roll all rolled into one. It’s like watching an old clip from the 1930s and seeing someone talking on an iPhone. Its queer and exciting all at once. It’s really history with a modern twist. How so? When the first line you hear in the anime is “ARE YOU READY GUYS!? TO THE GUNZO(oh whatever he said)… HERE WE GO!” Um… Masamune Date is portrayed as a yankee who spouts random fired up english words. The characters crack me up. HAHA… they are cool, really they are. Um… but they’re so… FLASHY. Their costumes are so friggin outrageous. So are their weapons. The OP was really cool though. They have sengoku soldiers have backup dancers! Hah!
Overall? It’s a good watch. I had loads of fun.
Basquash
This anime is crrrrraaazzy. Crazily AWESOME. The pace of it leaves you breathless. It just keeps going! I love the animation. Its really good. The sound effects of the mecha dribbling… WOW. BUT! God do I hate the leading character. He keeps shouting and screaming and raving. Its hurting my ears! Seriously, he is an angsty child with anger management problems and a serious case of being a social misfit AND being a sis-lover to boot. Trust the Japanese to do it. And of cos, whats a shounen anime without some big breasted gal? The only disturbing part? We have a big boobie LOLI for Basquash. Goddamn those puppies on some ten year old looking chick.
Overall? Mmn. I’ll keep watching.
Pandora Hearts
Did I over anticipate for Pandora Hearts? Well, it was good. Mnn. It was just good, and that’s all. It was just seeing manga pages springing alive with voices and actions. Sigh… I over anticipated after all. It was a good watch. It was. *whew*
Hanasakeru Seishounen
It’s not reverse harem, its actually YURI! Nahh… just kidding! Mmn… me thinks I LIKE THIS ANIME! That’s rare. Really. I really hate reverse harems. With a vengeance. Cos they have ridiculously cheesy and pathetic story lines. The lead girl is always weak and cute. The boy are all perfect but there will always be a hot one (usually the lead, rich and rude or something like that), a cool one (megane-kei), an angsty one (the one with ISSUES), a cute one (sports or something) brother-type one (older one protects you and the younger one needs your protection) and add whatever stereotypes you can think of into the mix. For Hanasakeru, its still too early to judge. At least the lead is fine, though she is a typical stereotype of 帰国子女, Japanese kids returning from overseas. Thank god she ain’t no whiny type, which sadly speaking, is a stereotype of 帰国子女. Mn. The Chinese dude look hawt but he shoots chopsticks! O.O Well… its harem anime after all. They thrive on stereotypes.
GUIN SAGA
CONAN!!!!
I’m so glad I decided to give Guin Saga a shot. This is gonna be one good epic fantasy. Twin children, a courageous sister and a weak brother, a mystery manbeast without a memory, the overthrowing of a royal family… Seriously, this is epic fantasy stuff. Typical? Maybe. We’ve seen too many fantasies about royal children running away and some mysterious guardian protecting them. Have they let you down? Well, not for me. Seirei no Moribito was brilliant. And I think Guin Saga gonna be too. The art is good and I really like the characterization of the princess. Only Guin… hurhur… Too Conan. He’s running around in a loincloth with two kids. So wrong. So wrong. Ha. I love the music though. Very epic fantasy-ish. Ha.
Valkyria Chronicles
So this piece of scrap metal was supposed to blow my socks off?
*yawns* I’m not trying to be rude here but OMG. This anime bores the crap out of me. No, its not because it is about some parallel WWII world. I’m a political science student, there’re worse shits than WWII history. Valkryia… sigh. Tytania was boring for me, but even that had more OOPMH than this one. This anime has NO interesting characters (I thought this boring dude might turn out to be some cool sniper, but no… he’s only a descendant of some dead war hero), NO awesome weapons (except for that rusty tank that was apparently the HIGHLIGHT of this episode), NO BOOBS (surprise! NO melons for the lead!), NO ACTION (unless you call random bullets flying around action), NO HUMOUR (…) One more episode, if this boring crap continues, I’m dropping this. But I’m not expecting anything. The tank is not going to go Transformer or anything right?
SAKI
WHY. WHY. WHY. Whats with all these yuri undertones in Spring’s anime!? ANYWAY. Saki surprised me! It was actually quite interesting! I’m even willing to overlook those ridiculous melons on pink loli. I’m gonna continue watching this! =D
Ok. I’m done. Yeah, I haven’t get around watching Phantom yet. It seems to be heavy stuff so I’m waiting for the subs. I’m tempted to try Asura Crying, K-ON too. Alrighty, more reviews next week!
